Climate(s):
Subtropical, humid
(Northeastern part)
Temperate, humid
(Most of Northwestern part of island)
Semi arid, steppe
(Central part)
Continental, humid
(Southern part of island)

Explaination of climate: climate of Kartasugih influenced heavily on the monsoon of Agulhas current on the Southeastern Indian ocean makes it warmer than it should be on its latitude (works as a gulf stream) however makes it one of the most cloudy and humid region in the world. While the southern part of country influenced by the Antartic wind yet the northeast still pretty warm (as it Pacific Northwest (Seattle-Vancouver) style) because of the mountain shielding north from the cold front from south. Most of the population (together with most arable lands) are located in the north due to the warmer climate influence.

Etymology:
Kartasugih comes from the word Kerta which means Glory and Sugih which means Prosperity (both in Javanese) as the unification of North and South Maestria in 1902.
Meanwhile the name Maestria has several versions of its origin. First theory is coming from the Masri which was noted as how the initial wave of Austronesian people referring their homeland as.Second theory is that the name comes from the word Maha and Triyas meaning Great and Three (both from Sanskrit origin) that named by the Javanese settlers as the third great island (first great island is African mainland, and second great island is Madagascar). Third was the French give the name after the wind in french (french being the first european to settle) which is either Marinia (from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marin_(wind) ) or Maestralia (from https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/mistral#French) which is the general positioning of island.

History:
Similar like the history of Madagascar, history of Kartasugih or Maestria island in general remains incomplete with the puzzle over various theory on humans settlement on island however the general idea was the Austronesian who natives to the Sunda Islands arrived on the northeastern coast of Maestria with outrigger canoes at the around 5-7th century AD after previously has expanded to Madagascar 300 years sooner. The early Maestrian people considered to be one people group with the Malagasy people from Madagascar with the Malagasy language have lot of resemblance with Maestrian languages in the Maestria island with the higher degree of Javanese, Malay and even Sanskrit loanwords hinting the Maestria people migrated to the island as late as the existence of early indianized kingdom on Java on 6th century AD.

One of the theories regarding the settlement route is the usage of Trade winds pattern where the Austronesian people followed the trade winds of the Indian Ocean whereas both Madagascar and Maestria island are on the southwestern end of southern trade winds. This impacted the initial settlement of Maestria island which was around the northeastern coast followed by several interior Maestria by side of major rivers (where the archeological finds on major rivers of Kawulan, Lawusari and Kasuriaman). The recent finding found that fertile lands on Kaliwali Plains and Devan riverside (both on the Northeast part of island) also another site of initial settlement of Maestria. These settlers particularly cleared the forest by the riverside and planted mostly rices they brought from Sunda Island taking advantage over more fertile volcanic soil in Maestria compared to both Madagascar and Africa Mainlands, while some coastal tribes practice fishing taking advantage of the rich fishing area on the Agulhas strait on the north coast. The following 7th-9th century the various Maestrian people settled more inland and to the western side of the island where most of today's original Maestrian culture resides including the western most Austronesian speaking population of Pendonese who live on the Pandonoan peninsula.

The second wave of settlers came in the form of mostly Javanese speaking people from Java instead of Ma’anyan people from Borneo in the first wave of settlers. These settlers came in the 10th-13th century as the Mataram Kingdom settled, done trading and slaving on the Southeastern coast of Africa causing strong influence of their culture over the region (real life proof: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mataram_K ... _invasions and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Javanese_ ... Migrations and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_o ... h_century) ). These occurrence also become part of theory for the naming of Maestria island where its come from Maha and Triyas meaning Great and Three (both from Sanskrit origin) that named by the Javanese settlers as the third great island while the first great island is African mainland, and second great island is Madagascar. However as the Maestria island holds better fertile soil and wet climate that suits the rice plantation compared with Africa and Madagascar, more settled in Maestria despite less people for trading and colder (yet still warm thanks to the ocean current) climate. The second wave of settlers nowaday either assimilated with the later come majority Javanese Sugihan or in some circumstances become its own group (Deweanwi people and Sisihan people) with their distinct culture resembling the older Javanese people.
The third wave of settler which today hold most of on Demak and Majapahit merchant trading posts on region (bit close of proof that there is exchange between Muslim Javanese (Demak) and Malagasy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sorabe_alphabet ). Trading post and settlements are spreaded over to the Southeast african coast including some in African mainland and Madagascar, however later on the African mainland settlement mostly abandoned except on several locations and the remaining settlement are only on both Madagascar and Maestria where Maestria are more preferred due to its fertile soil due to volcanic activity in comparison to Southeast Africa. These trading posts not only for its trading with local population but also a stopover for longer voyages over to the western coast of Africa such as Ghana.

Lawangrejo settlement around 1515 in modern day Kawulan state as the first “incorporated” settlement of Northern Maestria and probably the first ever official state founded in Maestria island. Most of the settlers are Hindu/Buddhist Javanese seeking for new land (which they get information from the traveling merchants about a fertile yet cold southern land) due to the expansion of Demak Sultanate and other muslim states as well as the exiles from Majapahit. This creation of settlement starts the third wave and final wave of Austronesian settlement in Maestria which is also the largest wave creating the majority of Kartasugihan people today.
Sambrangan state was founded on the Northern coast of Kaliwali river estuary (nearby modern day Kotabumi) in 1523 as the first major state to be founded. Sambrangan state also marks the foundation of Kotabumi as the major trading port and stopover during the age of exploration which later grew into the largest city in Kartasugih. Kotabumi also attracts non-Austronesian people on settling on Maestria island particularly Bantu African and Arabic people.

The foundation of Sambrangan also sparks the creation of minor states around the island and the gradual settlement expansions over various locations by various ethnic groups (mostly Javanese and Malagasy/Maestria and even some Middle eastern, Indian and Bantu African as well).

Muslim missionary sent by Demak/Pajang/Mataram Sultanate spread islam on the northeast settlement which resulted in islam as the largest religion today in Maestria island.

Kroya sultanate was founded in 1650 by the exiled royal family of Mataram sultanate (Son of Sultan Agung) after the struggle for power. The settlement was founded on the upstream of Kroya River, about 60 km southwest of Sonoboyo. Kroya sultanate will play a big role in uniting the island. Kroya sultanate also spread the usage of the prototype of modern day Sugihan as the Lingua Franca of region and define the culture of “Maestria”

Kroya Sultanate united most of northeast Austronesian settlements (either Nusantaran or Maestrian) and interior Maestria (excluding French Maestria in west and Southern part and Sabrangan state) and Reorganized them into territories and vassal states. Kroya Sultanate also is a major naval power in the region as the legacy of seafaring empire it came from.

During the height of age of Exploration, French founded Saint Jean (modern day Senjen) in 1678 in the western part of the island which marks the first European settlement on Maestria. The following european settlement in Maestria was Newchester by the British on 1705.

Image

Kroya-Sambrangan war in 1706 between the Kroya Sultanate and Sambrangan States in the central north, ended up with Kroya becoming the dominating entity on the island.

Meanwhile the Seven Years' War in 1763 handed the French Maestria into the British Empire creating the British Maestria on the western part of the island. However some of the French Maestrian dissatisfied with the British way of administering the colony started the great march to the South part of the island and settled Leaslia and founded the state of Marchtrois.

British Maestria expanded its territory to be closer with the Kroya Sultanate and the Kroya Treaty was established in 1778 defining the limit of both states' expansion which later marked the border between South and North Maestria for next 100 years.

More border skirmishes between Kroya and British Maestria and subsequent disputes sparked the Anglo-Kroya war 1865-1871 ended with stalemate and resulting in the status quo on both sides returned to the Kroya Treaty settlement border. The following years after Anglo-Kroya war will also mark the decline of both British Maestria and Kroya Sultanate due to the high dissidence of both states.

British Maestria suffers from the rebellion and revolutionary war sparked by the mistreatment of both colonists and natives. On 26 November 1881, South Maestria declared its independence from British Empire by joint force of european colonist, natives maestrian and other people group residing in British Maestria started the South Maestrian Revolution which lasted for next several years. South Maestria got its support from the Kroya Sultanate, and several European powers including the French. South Maestria war of Independence finally concluded in 1883 due to the pressure of british empire and the low morale after First Boer War in nearby South Africa. South Maestria was officially recognized with the capital on the Rand City.

7 years later on 5 July 1888, Kroya Revolution breaks in Kroya Sultanate over the long period of recession and monarch abuse over the outer states following the 1860s war resulting the Monarch sovereignty limited to Kroya state while the rest of the states formed Maestrialor (North Maestria) with the capital in Kotabumi.

Image

Over the next 10 years, both Maestrialor and South Maestria leaders negotiate on the forming of a united confederacy between both countries. On March 7th 1901, Kartasugih Confederation was formed to mark the unification of both states and the entire island excluding Kroya Sultanate and Marchtrois. The Kartasugihan Confederation consist of 2 major entities which is north and south maestria with the capital on Sedayu (later the under construction Kartapura)

Marchtrois joined the confederacy on 18 September 1902 followed by Kroya Sultanate on 3 January 1908.

Kartasugih Confederacy mostly spared from World War 1 and takes a neutral stance. However Kartasugih was involved in World War 2 due to its geopolitical location on the Indian Ocean and one of regional naval great powers. Battle of Kartasugih Coast and various raiding of coastal areas by Axis (Vichy France, Japan and Nakama), Kartasugih also participated in the Indian Ocean battle joining forces with UK and South Africa.

Whilst surviving war with rather minor impact, post world war 2 Kartasugih marks the rather turbulent condition with its dissatisfaction of its inefficient 4 states administration model. Finally on 9 November 1948 Kartasugih ratified its 1948 constitution where it is used until today and ditched its 4 states confederacy model into the federal system with 31 states and one federal district.
Politics:
Kartasugih mostly have "Sugihan Traditionalism" which is in spectrum basically center left. it was formulated in 19th century Kroya Sultanate politician based on the society norms of the Austronesian population of Maestrian island (including British Maestria). it become popular with the South Maestrian War of Independence and Kroya Revolution on the end of that century and become the direction it went until early 20th century. however in 1930s it went out of fashion in favor of more free market capitalism and neoliberalism until 1980-1990s. it start to get revived around 1970s and become majority again after 1990s economy stagnation.

the revivalism also include the idea emerged in the southern Kartasugih which leaning toward Marxism in some degree. However as the note that modern day "Sugihan Traditionalism" encourage open and free market in default.

Tectonic setting:
Kartasugih is situated within 5 different tectonic plate whereas 3 being major tectonic plate (Nubian/African Plate, Somali Plate and Antartic Plate), and 2 minor plate (Maestria Plate (fictional) and Lwandle Plate: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lwandle_Plate ). Kartasugih might not as tectonically active as ring of fire however the plate activity makes it one of hotbed of volcanism makes its soil pretty fertile and prone to some minor tectonic activity (sort of equivalent how New Zealand tectonic activity). Maestria plate been driftwing away from Antartica plate subducting Somali plate is the main cause of tectonic activity in Kartasugih.
